Passport Photo for Voter ID (Form 6 / EPIC Card)
The Election Commission of India's Voter Portal and Voter Helpline app both ask for a passport-style photo when you submit Form 6 (new voter registration), Form 8 (corrections, address change) or apply for a duplicate EPIC card. A wrongly sized photo blocks the entire submission. This page covers exactly what the portal accepts.

Form 6, Form 8 and EPIC upload differences
Form 6 (new voter, first-time registration) on voterportal.eci.gov.in accepts JPEG up to 2 MB but rejects photos where the face is too small in the frame. Form 8 corrections (name, DOB, address) usually cap at 200 KB. The duplicate EPIC card application on the Voter Helpline mobile app caps at 200 KB JPEG.
If a single photo has to work across all three forms, generate it at 200 × 230 px JPEG under 200 KB and it will pass everywhere.
What gets photos rejected
ECI verifiers reject photos with a coloured background, sunglasses, group shots cropped to a single face, or any photo where the face is in profile or partially obscured.
- Coloured or busy background (must be light/white)
- Sunglasses, caps or face partially hidden
- Profile shot — the face must look straight ahead
- Group photo cropped to one person — image quality is too low
- Photo shot from below with chin enlarged
How to make and upload the photo
Take a clear front-facing photo against a plain wall. In our editor, choose the Voter ID preset, adjust the vertical crop so your face fills the centre of the frame, and download as JPEG under 200 KB. Upload it on the relevant form (Form 6 for new registration, Form 8 for corrections, Form 002 for duplicate EPIC) and the page will accept it on first try.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the photo size for Voter ID Form 6?
- JPEG up to 2 MB, but a 200 × 230 px image under 200 KB works across all voter portal forms.
- Can I use the same photo for Aadhaar and Voter ID?
- Yes, if the photo is recent. Recompress it to the correct KB for each portal.
- Will a coloured background be rejected?
- Yes. ECI requires a plain light background — white is safest.
- Can I upload via the Voter Helpline app?
- Yes. The mobile app accepts the same JPEG size and dimensions as the web portal.
