Passport Photo for Aadhaar Update
UIDAI does not let you upload a new photo online — the Aadhaar photo can only be updated by visiting an enrolment centre, where a fresh biometric photo is captured on the spot. Why you cannot update an Aadhaar photo online
Aadhaar uses biometric capture — the photo, fingerprints and iris scan are all taken on UIDAI-certified hardware in a controlled environment. This prevents identity fraud through photo swap. The myAadhaar self-service portal lets you update demographic details (address, name, DOB, mobile, email) but the photo, fingerprints and iris always require an in-person visit.
What to do at the enrolment centre
Carry your existing Aadhaar card or Aadhaar number along with one supporting document. Fill the 'Aadhaar Enrolment / Correction Form' marking the 'Biometric Update' option, pay the ₹100 fee, and let the operator capture your fresh photo, fingerprints and iris. The updated Aadhaar takes 7–30 days to reflect online.
Wear solid, non-white clothing that contrasts with the white capture background. Avoid hats, sunglasses and heavy make-up. Religious head coverings are allowed as long as the face is fully visible.
When you still need a printed passport photo
Some enrolment centres ask for a self-attested printed passport photo to staple to the form, even though the operator captures a fresh biometric. Print a standard 35 × 45 mm Indian passport photo and bring two copies to be safe.
